Each year at commencement, the BEF recognizes two students with an attractive cherrywood plaque, noting unique accomplishments in and out of the school environment. The staff selection process focuses on students who give of their time to help others, take an interest in their fellow classmates, who have expanded their educational experience through multiple extracurricular activities, and who may have overcome challenging circumstances in their Bowman Career. Recipients are announced at the graduation ceremony.
2018: New bleachers for the new multipurpose room
2017: New music instruments for band
2015: New music instruments for band, 2nd grade bouncy bands
September 2014: Congrats to Caine Sussman for his grant request to increase his in-class collection of contemporary fiction books for his students. We believe that reading is very important and are happy to help fund that activity for these 4th graders.
April 2014: Recognizing the unprecedented efforts of a team of 2nd and 3rd grade girls who have been invited to compete in the 2014 Destination Imagination World Finals event in Tennessee in May, the BEF has voted to donate $500 towards their registration expenses. We applaud the "Bowman Brain Builders" for their willingness to take on a complicated technical challenge, and to work together as a team to bring their concepts and ideas to this international competition.
February 2014: The BEF voted to partner with the Ackerman Charter School District to fund a new Technology Elective called "GenYES 1:1". Bowman will be the first school in this area to offer this innovative class which encourages technology combined with leadership skills for middle school students. Cudos to Ian Byerrum for spearheading this proposal to bring this new year-long elective to our school.
November 2013: Congrats to Adele DaMate and Kathy Patterson and the entire Bowman Kindergarten Teaching Team for a innovative proposal to integrate several ceramics projects into the Kindergarten curriculum for 2013-2014. The BEF is pleased to offset the financial expense of this worthwhile and age-appropriate enrichment idea.
November 2013: Congrats to Caine Sussman for his proposal to install and test a "next generation" overhead projector in his classroom, fully integrated with his existing voice amplification system and SMART board. This projector almost doubles the lumen output for increased visibility for all students in the classroom, and utilizes a longer-life, non-proprietary bulb at a more reasonable cost.
August 2013: Congrats to Hillary Albrecht and Aleida Kimbrel for securing BEF grant funds to purchase a new Spanish language curriculum for the middle school elective students. !Magnifico!
May 2013: Congrats to Allison Yee, Music Instructor, for her recently funded grant to replace the school's aging performance risers with newer, safer models. Looking forward to next year's musical performances.
April 2013: Congrats to Ian Byerrum, Technology Lab Instructor, for his recently funded grant to improve student typing skills.
